Jesse Murry

Biography

Jesse Murry (1948 - 1993, Fayetteville, North Carolina). Jesse Murry graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in 1978, and the Yale School of Art, Yale University in 1986.

During his lifetime, three solo exhibitions were held: Approaching Magic, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Geneva, New York (1984); Thesis Show, Yale School of Art, New Haven, CT (1986); Works on Paper, Sharpe Gallery, New York (1987); Paintings, NYNEX Collection, White Plains, New York (1990). Posthumous exhibitions include Jesse Murry: Rising, David Zwirner, New York (2021), travelled to USF Contemporary Art Museum, Florida (2022); Radical Solitude, Tibor De Nagy (2020). Murray has been included in numerous group exhibitions in the USA. Select exhibitions include: James Baldwin/Jim Brown and the Children, Artist’s Institute, New York (2016); you start to want to die, Doyers, New York (2013) and Utopian Vision, MOMA, travelling exhibitions, New York (1988).
