Vertrokken Onbekend WaarheenOctober 20, 2024 – March 23, 2025Group exhibition featuring work by Ronald Zuurmond, Shirley Welten, Aline Thomassen, and Folkert de Jong.
The exhibition Vertrokken Onbekend Waarheen explores how four leading contemporary artists interpret the tension between life and death. Through their respective mediums—Ronald Zuurmond (paintings), Aline Thomassen (watercolors), Shirley Welten (photography), and Folkert de Jong (sculpture)—the artists reflect on the natural process of rise, bloom, and decline in human existence.

The diverse works of the four artists create exciting visual connections and offer a philosophical reflection that encourages celebrating life with full awareness. Themes such as strength, passion, good and evil, memory, eternity, and many other aspects of human existence emerge in their works.
The exhibition explores the age-old theme of memento mori (remember that you must die). This Latin phrase reminds us of the inevitability of death—not to frighten us, but to inspire us. By acknowledging that our time on Earth is limited, we are encouraged to live with more depth, passion, and awareness. Thus, death is not the end, but serves as a source of life and self-reflection.
