Vision & Mission
Context, care, and time
Gallery Sofie Van de Velde is founded on the belief that art gains strength when it is supported by context, care, and time. The gallery is committed to building sustainable artistic trajectories, in which artists are not only presented, but actively accompanied and positioned within a broader artistic, historical, and societal framework.Long-term relationships
Our mission is to support artists throughout all stages of their careers by creating long-term relationships based on trust, transparency, and mutual engagement. We work closely with artists, collectors, institutions, and fellow galleries to develop meaningful contexts in which artworks can circulate, be understood, and endure — both locally and internationally.Artists and practices
The gallery represents artists across three main groups. We work with emerging artists, supporting the early development of their practice and their introduction to collections and institutions. For this, the gallery created The Wunderwall, a dedicated platform that offers space for experimentation, visibility, and dialogue, allowing new voices to be presented within a curated and professional context.
We represent mid-career artists whose work has matured into a distinctive and internationally recognised oeuvre, and whom we accompany in the further positioning and expansion of their practice. In addition, the gallery works with estates of significant artists, collaborating closely with heirs and institutions to preserve, contextualise, and reactivate important bodies of work.Dialogue between past and present
Alongside this, Gallery Sofie Van de Velde actively engages with works from the secondary market, allowing historical and contemporary positions to enter into dialogue. By consciously connecting different generations, artistic approaches, and moments in time, the gallery creates a layered programme in which past and present continuously inform one another.A human approach
At the core of our vision lies a warm, human approach to the art world, grounded in professionalism, care, and accessibility. We aim to act as a mediating space between artists and their audiences, fostering genuine engagement without sacrificing intellectual depth or artistic integrity. Through this approach, the gallery seeks to contribute to a resilient and sustainable ecosystem in which artists, artworks, and narratives can grow and remain relevant over time. -
