Ives Maes, TROPES

Nieuw Zuid

In Ives Maes' book Recyclable Refugee Camp (2008), Dieter Roelstraete wrote about “the painful association of the refugee with the Deleuzian concept of nomadology as a popular intellectual metaphor for this condition of globalization, a defining trope of our contemporary cultural condition.” Using this thought as a starting point, Ives Maes continues his long-term investigation into themes of temporary architecture, places of refuge, and ruination in TROPES. This new series of works builds upon the conceptual motifs and repetition of titles that define his oeuvre: tents, forests, camps, plants, watchtowers, huts, and fences.
