Jesse Tomballe

People on Sunday
November 25, 2025

Jesse Tomballe’s People on Sunday reveals a world where ordinary moments take on a quiet intensity. Familiar figures appear in bedrooms, kitchens, gardens and parks—spaces where time seems to slow, where gestures linger, and where nothing much happens except the subtle tension of being seen. The works evoke the gentle melancholy of a Sunday afternoon that stretches endlessly on.

What looks effortless is carefully constructed. Working from photographs, sketches, and cinematic references, Tomballe creates images that feel intimate yet subtly staged. His figures seem close but mentally adrift; scenes appear spontaneous while shaped with precision. The works invite viewers into a suspended world of stillness and ambiguity, reflecting on how we share time, space, and the awareness of being seen.

The exhibition will be on view from 22 November 2025 until 11 January 2026.
