Lily van der Stokker b. 1954

Lily van der Stokker is an artist known for her monumental, decorative, and conceptual wall paintings. She studied at the Academy of Visual Arts Sint-Joost in Breda and managed a gallery in New York during the 1980s. Van der Stokker gained recognition as an artist in the 1990s and has since exhibited at major institutions, including the Walker Art Center (USA), Centre Pompidou (Paris), the Ludwig Museum (Köln), Tate St.Yves (UK), The Hammer Museum (Los Angeles), Camden Art Center (London), the New Museum (New York), and the Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam). Her work celebrates everyday life, beauty, family and friendship, without irony or cynicism. She challenges art norms by highlighting "soft" themes, such as motherhood and femininity, while questioning contemporary standards of taste.
